Main line

The carp line is your direct link to the fish and can make the difference between success and failure. It must be strong enough to survive the fight with a large carp and should also have a high abrasion resistance to withstand the tough conditions at the bottom of the water.
Whether monofilament, braid or fluorocarbon: you can find the best lines for carp fishing in our store!

Buying carp line: How to find the best skin line!

Monofilament skin line for carp

Mono is probably the most popular type of line used when fishing for carp. It has many positive properties that are an advantage when drilling the strong fighting fish. In addition, it usually sinks well and nestles inconspicuously against the bottom of the water.
Due to its stretch, it is best at absorbing strikes and sudden escapes, thus minimizing the risk of slipping.
Modern high-performance monos such as the Watercraft Flurocast V2 or the ASSO Tetramax still have sufficient reserves to land fish safely, even with thicknesses of 0.24mm - 0.26mm. They are therefore perfect as lines for casting at extreme distances!
The smooth surface minimizes drag on the reel, allowing monofilament skin lines to be cast further than braided lines.
Monofilament lines are also much more abrasion-resistant than comparable braids and are the line of choice when there are a lot of mussels and obstacles in the water.

Monofilament lines have been popular in carp fishing for decades. They are abrasion-resistant and stretchy, which helps during the fight. They are also available cheaply on large spools and sink well.

Advantages of monofilament carp line

  • Good abrasion resistance
  • High stretch
  • Available cheaply on large spools
  • Sinks well

Braided main line for carp

Braided main lines consist of many braided individual fibers and are significantly stronger than monofilament lines with the same diameter. They have practically no stretch, so you have direct contact with the rig. When fishing at extreme distances, it therefore enables an exact bite indication. Due to the lack of a buffer effect, a mono leader such as the Watercraft Fluro V2 Snag Leader should always be used upstream when drilling to avoid slipping. They are very sensitive to sharp obstacles such as mussels or stones and do not forgive mistakes during the fight.
In herbaceous waters, they cut through the weed better to a certain extent and are therefore more pleasant to fish.
Most braids are floating to floating. This should be borne in mind, especially in waters with a high volume of water sports enthusiasts and boats. Unlike mono lines, braided lines are not susceptible to line twist.

Braided lines offer less stretch and better bite detection at long distances. However, they are more sensitive to abrasion and are therefore only recommended for clean water bottoms.

Advantages of braided carp line

  • Suitable for long distances
  • Good bite detection
  • High breaking strain with a small diameter

The advantages and disadvantages are virtually the same as those of the other line and vice versa.

In our main line for carp category, we offer main lines in various lengths, strengths and materials. We attach great importance to the following product characteristics:

  1. High breaking strain: Our main lines for carp are characterized by a high breaking strain, which enables you to land even larger and strong fighting carp safely.

  2. Abrasion resistance: Our main lines are specially developed for carp fishing and have a high abrasion resistance to provide reliable protection against sharp edges and obstacles.

  3. Low stretch: The low stretch of our braided main lines enables precise bite detection and effective power transmission, so that you can reliably detect bites even at greater distances.

  4. Variety of materials: In our range you will find main lines made of different materials such as monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid to find the perfect line for you and your fishing

How important is the quality of carp line?

The quality of the carp line is crucial for successful fishing. A high-quality line is abrasion-resistant, has a high breaking strain and a suitable stretch. It is also clearly visible or invisible, depending on requirements, and it holds even under difficult conditions.

The importance of stretch

The stretch of a carp line is an important aspect that is often overlooked. A line with high stretch can better absorb the headbutts of a struggling fish, preventing the hook from slitting. Monofilament lines usually have a higher stretch than braided lines. Some anglers prefer monofilament lines because of their stretch and abrasion resistance, while others appreciate the high breaking strain and low stretch of braided lines.

FAQ

What kind of line for carp?

The choice of line depends on the fishing conditions and your personal preferences. Monofilament, braided and fluorocarbon lines all have their advantages and disadvantages.

What is the best fishing line for carp?

There is no one "best" fishing line for carp. The best line is the one that best suits the fishing conditions and your personal preferences.

What do I use as a carp line?

The choice of line depends on the conditions on the water. As a rule, the shock leader should be thicker and stronger than the main line.

What is the breaking strain of carp line?

The breaking strain of the carp line should be matched to the size and strength of the expected fish. For large carp, a line with a breaking strain of at least 10 kg is recommended.
